Apostolic Creed, Doctrine and Discipline

THE 1988 MINUTE BOOK and the MINISTERIAL MANUAL OF DISCIPLINE.

1972, of THE PENTECOSTAL ASSEMBLIES OF THE WORD

Section I: Creed

We believe there is one Lord, one Faith, One Baptism, One God and Father of all who is above all and through all, and in all. (Eph. 4:5, 6)

We fully believe in the mystery of the Godhead, that Jesus was both human and divine and that the Godhead be understood to mean all of the fullness of God; that Jesus was the Eternal Father made visible apart from whom there is no God.

(Col. 1:19, 2:9)

We believe that membership in Christ is by water baptism in Jesus’ Name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.  (Acts 2:38)

We believe in Divine Healing.  The Lord is our Healer.  (Exodus 15:26; Psalms 132:2,3.)  The Lord made our bodies.  Should it be thought a thing incredible that He can heal us?  With His stripes we are healed. (Isa. 53:4, with Matt. 8:14-17. See John 14:12; Mark 16, 17; James 5:14.)

We believe that Jesus is coming to earth again in person. (Acts 1:11) We believe that tithing and freewill offering is God’s only plan for carrying on God’s work. (Mal. 3:8-12)

We believe that “we that are alive” and living righteous before God shall be translated or “caught up to meet the Lord in the air.” (1 Thess. 4:17)

We believe that in the final judgment all those whose name are not found written in the Book of Life shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, burning with brimstone, which God hath prepared for the devil and his angels.  Satan being cast in first.

(Revelation 20:7-15; Matthew 24:41-46; Revelation 21:8)

We believe that in order to escape the judgment of God and to have the hope of enjoying the glory of life eternal, one must be thoroughly saved from his sins. Wholly sanctified and filled with the Holy Ghost.  And that a wholly sanctified life is the only true standard of Christian life. (Hebrews 12:14; 1Peter 1:15-17).

Doctrine

Our doctrine is the Word of God as taught and revealed by the Holy Ghost.

 (John 14:26; I Corinthians 2:9-13)

Godhead

We believe there is one Lord, One Faith, One Baptism, One God and Father of all who is above all and through all, and in all. (Ephesians 4:5,6)

Membership

We believe that membership in Christ is by water baptism in Jesus Name and the infilling of the Holy Ghost, with the evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.  (Acts 2:38)

To retain membership in the “Body of Christ: one must live a wholly sanctified life. (Hebrews 12:14; 1 Peter 1:15-17)

Devine Healing

We believe in Divine Healing.  The Lord is our Healer. (Exodus 15:26; Psalm 132:2,3) The Lord mad our bodies.  Should it be thought a thing incredible that He can heal us?  With His stripes we are healed (Isa. 53:4, with Matt. 8:14-17). See John 14:12; Mark 16, 17 ;  James 5:14

We believe that our God is the “only “ healer,”  and that miracles are performed today as in biblical times.  This is to say that whatever means that may be resorted to for relief from suffering, in the final analysis God alone sets the healing process in motion.  This is NOT a condemnation of the advances of medical science nor a refusal to accept their findings; but rather a faith that reaches beyond their human limitations and rests in the final outcome in His hands.

We do not believe that the absence of healing is an absence or lack of faith; nor do we believe that the presence of an un-shaking faith is a guarantee of healing; for the faith of the Bible is primarily a "saving faith" rather than faith for healing.

Miracles

Jesus sent his disciples to preach His word, and in order to confirm the word, He worked with them with signs. (St. Mark 16:20)  When there is the need today of breaking through barriers of unbelief to establish the truth of God's Word, miracles and marvelous healing are in order for our day.

The Lord's Supper

We believe that the Lord's Supper is a commemoration of the death of our Lord Jesus Christ, and as often as we do it, we show forth his death until he comes. (1 Corinthians 11:25-26)

Section II: Discipline

Feet Washing

Feet washing is a divine command as set forth in the New Testament.  Jesus gave us an example that we do even as He had done.  He said that we ought to wash one another's feet. (St. John 13:4-17)

Offering

We believe that tithing and freewill offering is God's only plan for carrying on God's work.  (Mal. 3:8-12)

The Appearing Of Christ

We believe that Jesus is coming to earth again in person. (Acts 1:11) We believe that "we that are alive" and living righteous before God shall be translated or "caught up to meet the Lord in the air." (1 Thess. 4:17)

Tribulation

We believe that there "shall be a tie of trouble such as there never was since there was a nation even to that time", known as the period of tribulation. (Rev, 20:1-5)

The Millennium

We believe that the period of tribulation will be followed by the dawn of a better day on earth, and that for one thousand years there shall be "peace on earth, good will toward men."  (Rev. 20:4-6)

Final Judgment

We believe that in the final judgment all those whose names are not found written in the Book of Life shall be cast into the Lake of Fire, burning with brimstone, which God hath prepared for the devil and his angels.  Satan being cast in first. (Rev. 20:7-15; Matthew 24:41-46; Rev. 21:8)

Marriage

It is through the sexual union that husband and wife know each other in a dimension that is not to be shared by any other human being.

It is the highest degree of expression and purpose of earthly love and is not degrading or repugnant.

Divorce

No one having come into the Holy Ghost life shall be permitted to sever relations with their mate, once having taken their vows before God and civil authorities.

It is concluded that the only spiritual grounds for divorce today is proved fornication which is determined to be the indulgence of all unlawful sexual acts. (Matthew 19:9)

Divorce is discouraged, even though fornication is a proven fact and should be used only as a last resort.

Birth Control

We uncompromising condemn marriages contracted with an agreement that there be no children.

We condemn the inducement of all forms of abortion for the purpose of limiting the number of children in a family.

Pastors may recommend that parents follow the advice of a physician in extreme cases where the mother's health is endangered by too frequent pregnancies.

Homosexuality

The Holy Scriptures have clearly directed all believers to abstain from all forms of fornication.  (I Thess. 4:3).  It has been concluded that homosexuality is a form of fornication.  See Section 8B on Doctrine in the Minute Book.

We therefore unreservedly affirm that the practice of any form of homosexuality offends the Word of God and hence is a violation of our doctrine and we go on record as declaring that the power of the Holy Spirit is capable of changing the life style and habits of every sinful creature.

Therefore we recommend persons who are inclined to homosexuality to seek help and deliverance through the Holy Spirit and counseling.
